Centre for Legal Education

The Centre now boasts three Principal Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (Janine, Paul, Jane C) and we were delighted to hear that Matthew has been awarded the very prestigious National Teaching Fellowship in the last round.  Congratulations to Matthew!

We were delighted, throughout the autumn, to welcome our visiting scholar from Australian National University, Dr Elizabeth Curran. Liz was a huge contributor to research, social and other activities and we look forward to working with her again in the future. Her inspiring research seminar was reported in this blog in November.

CLE members and postgraduate research students have participated in a wide range of conferences including the Society of Legal Scholars conference in Oxford September, with Grapham, Paul and Jane C all giving papers. We were also pleased to see our postgraduate research students appearing at conferences,at the NTU and elsewhere. Pamela delivered a workshop at NTU’s DELITe Conference in June, with Justine Davidson (Fashion Marketing Management).

Jane C and Pamela’s project for the SRA on work experience (including training contracts and clinics) for intending solicitors was published in October.  Jane C finished the travel elements of her work helping to review legal education in the Commonwealth Caribbean as part of the IMPACT Justice project.

Paul and Nigel delivered a 3 day workshop to 9 members of staff from the Trent Patient Simulation Unit at QMC. The aim was to re-train those staff as simulated clients for various courses at NLS and for possible wider use across NTU, including in research.

Meanwhile, much activity is ongoing in relation to our summer 2017 conference,  Legal Education, Legal Practice and Technology, with the deadline for proposals expiring in early February.  Booking is now open!
