Centre for Legal Education

The interviewing competition for NLS students has now commenced for 2017. An excellent opportunity for students to improve employability skills for law and non-legal professions.

We are using our experience and expertise to train  students in order to  give them confidence in their own abilities to communicate effectively and with the necessary compassion and understanding in an initial interview with the client.

How are we doing this? Our approach is to train students to use a hybrid of prompting client recall of events (cognitive theory of interviewing) together with a client centred approach. Non reliance on checklists and promotion of active listening is designed to elicit information in a non-threatening and supportive way.

24 students will undertake the training and competition and I will endeavour to keep you updated on progress and feedback as the term continues.
